Biodegradation of Organic wastes

According to an EPA report published in 1992, 80% of all waste contamination are hydrocarbon related. These hydrocarbons can be divided into aliphatic/aromatic and Xenobiotics(synthetic compounds not normally found in nature). Oxic degradation of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons is carried by pseudomonas. The long chain aliphatic hydrocarbons are converted into fatty acids by oxidation of a terminal carbon(alcohol – aldehyde – carboxylic acid). Oxic degradation of aromatic hydrocarbons occurs through a different route (catechol - dicarboxylic acid).

Konark Biosciences offers solutions based on bioremediation for the treatment of organics in the following:

  • Waste water from textiles, food, distilleries and Pharma industries.
  • Degradation of cellulosics.
  • Performance enhancement in facultative ponds and lagoons where limited aeration is available (effective for odor control and BOD removal)
  • Control of foaming in STP’s
  • Recalcitrant organics and toxic organics
